Description

I had made this as part of a 'celebration of things Austral' for Optus a couple of years ago, and dredged it back up becauseit made it to orbit today in a beautiful launch, Ariane v151. -*- For you who could care less about satellites, I thought you might be interested in the tiling techniques. This is just a middle slice of a 4000x6000 poster. After working on each part as a separate photo, I made it into tilework with Painter 6 and 7 and then composited with PhotoShop. The actual DEM heightmap of Austrailia and New Zealand and lettering on the poster involved my own surfPPC program in pre- and post-processing steps (akin to the lighting filter in photoshop) -*- Thanks for viewing! Thanks all you austral folks, don't stand on your head - you can look at this right-side-up. (sic)

Wow, when I first looked at it I already thought it was huge. When I read that it was a part of a poster, it must be gigantic! Such an enormous undertaking and very intricate. Your skill is astounding.

Very cool effect. I don't understand anything you wrote about how you created it, but I do understand one thing, the labor of love that went into it. Excellent job!

I've just moved to Canada after 24 years in Adelaide; this poster made me soooo homesick. But it is truly a thing of beauty. I concur with all the comments already made.
