Description

WORK IN PROGRESS I've been working on this with my old copy of infini-D. I'm about to start the textures from scratch (again), because I'm not happy with the plating and they're not large enough for close-up shots, yet. The texture files for the main object are already about 2000x1800 pixels. I'm going to make them twice that. You can't see in this image, but I've recently added landing gear, that still needs some work (on both model detail and textures). I've also to model the interior of the cargobay, for the scene I have in mind. I'll also have to finish modelling it's special contents (which I'll leave as a surprise). And, the cockpit interior isn't finished, either. The scale of the ship is about 120m length and 100m winspan with a 15m height (with landing gear retracted). It's the largest reusable in the IST fleet. I'll include the full description wit the finshed product as well as multiple views and a proper scene. It'll probably be a few weeks before that, though. Special thanks to: - pgarcia001, for rendering the images in the best detail. Were it not for him, I'd still be rendering the first model that I created 2 weeks ago. And for providing me with very helpful criticism regarding aerodynamics, et cetera. Hope you like it. Comments are very welcome. The progress render number on the image refers to this model only. There are many more, from the other models. Cheers, James

ah..looks very familiar..wish it was a work in progress..NASA stopped looking for alternatives to the shuttle a couple years back; maybe they'll change their mind. good detail.

Ah, cheers. NASA hasn't stopped looking, though. They just lack the funding. The X-33 seems to have fallen short, but Lockheed-Martin has a very similar design called the VentureStar which they appear to be developing.

I like this a lot! Please post a "3 view" where we see the ship from front, back, and underneath. It looks more like the Aerospace plane/Orient Express to me. VentureStar is as dead as a doornail. the X-prize, particularly Rutan (Spaceship One) and Carmak (Armadillo Aerospace) are the most hopefull current signs of new space travel. But the big, expensive, fancy NASA and DOD beasts make better illustrations.

Jim: still working on adding some model detail. But, I'll be sure to get some projections for you. admiral: Cheers ;) What's this about a movie? You've certainly piqued my interest.

hehe it's called exodus: 20 friends and myself are creating a full leighth series. it's pretty much the transition from a pre-FTL civilization to a FTL one. 8 parts to the series, each ep ranging from 20-45mins incredibly detailed models, done purly in max, no post productions. Special effects out the wazoo, and to top it off... earth's first contact with an alien civilization! :D The space station model I'm making is going to be used for it as well.. we're currently assembling to model props, then we'll start animating with 100k-1.4million poly models :) gonna be fun.
