It looks like fossils in some kind of sandstone to me. It's a beautiful thing!

You must be proud to own this fossilised box of Kleenex from the Palaeozoic era, Bryan. Although now deep brown with mineral stains, and ruffled by the frantic activities of viral-infected trilobites desperate for a good nose-blow, the layered tissues cannot be confused with anything else. (What really got up the trilobite's noses was the knowledge that they wouldn't evolve noses before becoming extinct). Nice image, Bryan.
