Description

This is my meager attempt to sketch "Paul Cezanne's-The Card Players". The original painting was done during the years of 1890-1892 and part of a series. A Little Bit of History...from Art and Design - History of Art Notes Cezanne's development can be divided into a number of phases. From 1862 to 1870, he studied the painting of Courbet, Poussin and Manet among others, striving for a realism. His painting at the time was coarse in texture and often painted with a palette knife, using greys, browns, earth colours and heavy black shadows with the occasional flashes of brilliant colour. Characteristic of this period is a portrait of his father in 1866, called "Still life with black clock." Cezanne retired to l'Estaque, and here in close contact with the landscape, he developed a sensitivity. The former heaviness gave way to a more controlled and subtle surface, his palette lightened with the increased use of primary colours and related tones. Pisarro and he influenced each other but preserved their own identity. Always researching, he went on to paint portraits, self-portraits, still-lifes, landscapes and in compositions such as "The Card Players" , 1890-92. This sketch was done with Prismacolor Verithin and Col-erace Colored Pencils. I, then, went into PSP8 to give the sketch a more impressionistic feel...which was accomplished with the smudge tool. The Frame, Sparkles, Crab Apple Bouquet and Matting (Done By Me) were all accomplished through PSP8. I hope you like it! Thank you for stopping by! Cheryl

The soft values of the smudge tool and zoom depth on edges does give an impressive scan to the work. Learning from a master in choices and composition completes a work exclusively. Your hand travels from celebrity image to celebrity technique.

Very well done. Doing multiple figures in an image takes a lot of skill. Excellent work...
