Description

Loch an Eilein, with its island casle, is one of the best known and most loved beaty spots. With its backdrop of heather-clad mountains, ancient pine forest and craggy skyline. The castle which is built just off the north-west shore, which once was a stronghold of the powerful Norman family of Comyns in the fourteenth century. The ruins once gave a home to a pair of Ospreys who built an eyrie on its walls, but egg collectors chased them away.
