Description
The Space Island Project is where large scale space stations can be built using the external fuel tanks of space shuttles. Doing it this way makes more sense than the way the International Space Station was built. Everytime NASA sends up a shuttle, it has to jedison its external fuel tank and let it burn up during re-entry, and they had to send up about a dozen shuttles to build the ISS, and each piece of the ISS has to be able to fit into the cargo bay. Jedisoning the fuel tanks like that is, needless to say, very expensive. With the image above, they would only need 4 launches, with the solar panels located in the shuttle's cargo bay. For more information on this new type of space station, go to http://www.spaceislandgroup.com, its very fancinating. Also, the image above was made with AutoCAD 2002.
