Description

I had only seen Myurwyn one time, years ago, all bent, twisted and foul-mouthed. He came into the Court and paid respects to the King. Rumors flowed as to his powers, but it was clear, by what I saw, that he was what he claimed. There came a time when my King was deathly ill and I was sent to get a potion from this mysterious wizard. Upon leaving, I was warned by every person with an opinion, to be careful and wary and to suspect the worst. After two days sailing up the Agnard River, I was forced to row, for the wind died and a thick fog set in, hiding everything. It was late in evening that I came upon a light. Following it, I hoped it might be an inn, or a house, but there had been no signs of other humans for days. She was holding a lantern up. A beautiful white robed vision, standing at the end of a dock. Staying my distance, I asked who she was, but she just motioned me to come ashore. I stayed midstream, telling her of my worries and apologized for doubting her good intentions. The boat drifted a little closer and I was struck by the pale sweet face and large blue eyes. She said she could take me to Myurwyn, for that was why she was there. Something in my gut told me not to trust her, or anyone. Grasping the hilt of my sword, I asked this maiden to fetch the wizard, but she shook her head and said that would do no good. Finally, the girl lowered her lantern and turned, walking away. Looking around, I knew I did not want to set foot on this strange forboding land having gone three days without sleep. I called out and rowed to the dock. I met her at a pair of huge stone pillars and was instantly smitten by her innocent face, illuminated in the gold light of the lantern. "Please take me to this gnarly old wizard. I am on the King's business and must return as soon as possible. She brushed her hood back and when her arm lowered, I recoiled. The sweet face was now the leathery misshapen one of Myurwyn. I should have known! My grip on the hilt tightened and I was within seconds of drawing the sword when she chuckled like a songbird. The girl's face returned and she said she loved people's expressions when she did that. "I am the gnarly old wizard you seek. I also know that your king has died, so you do not need to be so anxious to return." she turned and we walked. "Excuse me, Wizard, but tell me, why the disguise?" "What you see now, is my usual appearence. When you saw the old and twisted form, that is what most people expect a great wizard to look like. Lends a bit of credibility, don't you think?" She invited me to have supper and offered a place for rest and sleep. In the following weeks, seeing no reason to return home, I enjoyed a bit of a working holiday. Myurwyn found many chores and repairs for me to do. Knowing she could do them with a wave of her hand, didn't matter much. I liked the work and I think she liked watching.

Wow - you've the energy not just to assemble a eery, dark and drawing iamge, but to put behind it a compelling storyline! I love the interaction you've achieved between the fog and the peer posts, this gives real depth the image... My only changes would have been to replace the water plane (great exturing btw) with a somewhat rippled terrain, for vague waves - and perhaps stud the shoreline with some rocks. Great work.
