Description
Bleriot crossing the English Channel
Louis Bleriot is best remembered for his pioneering flight across the English Channel on July 25, 1909. The small plane covered about 40 km (24 mi) in 36 minutes, traveling at the speed of about 60 km/h (37 mph)
For accomplishing this feat, he won the 1,000-pound prize put up by the Daily Mail, a London newspaper. Its significance, however, was far greater than this; the flight proved that Britain could be reached by airplane from the European continent.

Daring,a fair airframe, questionable engine reliability, pushing the envelope. A milestone in aviation history.
