Description
Oh boy, I love being back.
Anyway, this is really a response to a pic Drac posted a few days back about realism and a glass/tile floor he posted. I replied with some comments that I thought could better be shown in a render... (no postwork)
Ok, where to start, well, I was telling drak to watch out for too much refraction, you see how this glass is very "see through" as most glasses are. The floor tiles are lit much the same way the glass is, I faked caustics by using a red gellmap that I tweaked a bit on a very soft low level spotlight (you see how this makes light passing through the glass look more believable?) The floor tiles are reflective (blurred reflections) on the tile itself with no reflection on the grout, using a reflection map.
Hopefully, you got what I meant better through this?
Another one of my experiments in chaotic liquids as well, metaballs galore, unfortunately you can't see the splash as well as I would have liked, too much reflection?... I really liked the way this image turned out, perhaps I will render a larger one.
Render: 256 dpp effect render, dof/true ambiance/blurred reflections/blurred shadows, a few lights. (not going to go into lighting here unless asked)

wow---this is truly pushing bryce past its limits. everything is perfect, the lighting, textures, and metaball work. the slight DOF adds to the realism also. excellent image!

I agree with woodhurst! This is a very convincing render,I would swear it was a photograph if you had not informed me it was a Bryce render. Also would love to see a larger render, though I realise this would be long rendering project!
draculaz
not bad at all :)
RodsArt
Excellent work! Did the amount of metaballs greatly increase render time?

ICM: Yeah too many Metaballs with a transparent reflective texture make rendering this one a real pain... I can network render it in 23 hours over two athlon 2000+xps at 800 by 600, maybe I will do that. But yeah, the metaballs make rendering this one a real pain. Add in the floor being reflective (even though you can't see it, the reflectivity is used to fake radiosity, with a white specular halo and blurry reflections on. But I think it's worth it.

Love the way the glass looks, nice Brycing.

Rendering an 800 by 600 on my laptop, says 1 day 20 hours =/ And I just lost 6 hours of rendering because I clicked file to save it's state and nothing happened, so I clicked down near the render bars to stop the render, so I could save, then resume, just then the file menu pops up and my mouse happens to click on one of the "recent projects" boom doesn't even ask if I want to save...

Wow, fantastic--and I really appreciated knowing the "how" of your work. Thanks for sharing!

Work very realist ! Excellent textures ! Great idea ! Congratulations !

it's perfect!great modeling...

There is nothing "bryce" about this render except for the painful render times. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.

The new render should be done by tomorow morning, it's looking very decent, used even higher quality rendering methods. More smoothing on the glass etc. So, look for that in the near future. =).

Another cool image & explanation.
