Description

The first of 2 images featuring Mary Magdalen--This one is in the style of the Symbolists and depicts the Magdalen of French legend in a dream-like, vaguely medieval setting in Southern France, looking out over the mountains near St. Baume. When I was traveling in France, I discovered that she has a huge following there. Many churches are dedicated to her, some of which have Black Madonnas or some other connection to the Knights Templar, who were said to be especially devoted to her. I was surprised to find her altars and those of the Black Madonnas piled high with fruits and gourds--symbols of fertility--in churches where every other altar was bare of offerings. I believe this indicates a modern continuation of an ancient women

Wow, this is just beautiful ... the lighting is fantastic, as are all the colors and the composition is just flawless. I especially love the history and background you've included, makes this such a powerful piece, and I soooo look forward to the next in this series. Excellent choice! This ROCKS!

Awesome!! Both the pic & the History. Though I'm was quite familiar with the history, it was good to see it here with such an awsome pic. ysvry said: "wasnt Mary Magdalen the whore that was converted to christianity? u seem to wanna make a pagan symbol of her again odd." Please remember Christ wasn't a Christian either.
