BIO
Short Bio: Fantasy Artist Uwe Jarling was born in 1968. After graduating with a diploma degree in graphic design 1991 he worked as a illustrator and graphic designer further on. His first works were countless covers for videos, books, ... and many technical and architectural illustrations for advertising agencies. An important step in his further development followed in 2000 where he started to develop his "Fantasy Artwork" more seriously and did his first attempts creating his art on a computer. Since 2003 almost all of his work is painted digitally for clients all over the world mainly in the Fantasy Art genre. Uwe lives and works in a little village in the south of Germany. Tools used: Fantasy Artist Uwe Jarling is a traditional artist using traditional media like oils, watercolors and mainly gouache, but the last years he did the step into creating his art digital. The last 3 years 98% of his images are created using digital tools. Uwe experimented with several digital tools 3d as well as 2d. For 3d he experimented with 3d max, Poser, Vue, Bryce and more nice 3d applications, but as it doesnt fit him too well he decided to work mainly using 2d digital tools. For his 2d digital images Uwe uses mainly the software Painter, currently version 9, so most of his paintings are now done with Painter. For color corrections of his images or several effects Uwe uses Photoshop. All his latest images are done using Painter 9 and some Painter 9 and Photoshop CS in combination. Uwe currently paints on a Macintosh G5 using a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet.
Uwe was voted for Januarys 2006 Renderosity Artist of the Month. Read the AOM interview here:

I think it was the green eyed monster at work! Those begrudgers are just jealous that they aren't as talented as you are! I know that I could never create the beautiful images that you have, but I am content to admire them from afar! Congratulations on another wonderful MASTERPIECE!

Wow!! Excellent artwork!! - as always .. :) Thanks for showing us how you created this scene ... I am glad that you are posting your works here in the Vue Gallery otherwise most probable i would not have seen them ..

I haven't read the comments thoroughly as such, and maybe my point of view has already been touched upon. Well, anyway, here goes: There's nothing wrong with postworking your renders as such, any photographer would with his "photographic renders" as well, that is, work further on the initial print in the developing room and so forth. But for me, the line goes when you add things to your image, that wasn't there in the first place: That's manipulating, IMO. Now, we're all artists, and have the creative freedom to make anyting we wish to make, so this discussion pretty much boils down to a matter of categories. Now let me propose a question: Is a Photoshop (or what ever) collage of photos to be posted in the "photos" gallery ot in the "Mixed media" gallery? I think it should be posted in the mixed media gallery, because - it's a composite. Why? Because if you yourself is a an aspiring photographer, you could be baffled by the outcome, thinking that you're no good and so on - on the basis of some artistic manipulation of the composer. The same is true, or even more so, when it comes to 3D rendering - by presenting your 2D painting skills on top of a basic render, you are misleading the "up-and-coming" as to what is possible. At least - if you decide to let your work appear as "3D renders" - you should supply extensive information of what was painted/drawn. Well, that's (briefly) my POV. (I may mention that I'm quite proficient with my tablet, and earlier on, pretty good with an airbrush, just maybe I'll make some "3D paintings" myself, but that would present no challenge, where as 3D rendering does.) Nice work, though.

wow - thanks bigbraader - think you are right - i know what you mean - this is surely a mixed medium picture - the one thing is a little retouch the other adding things - and yes in this painting there are added several things - so really you are right this should be in mixed medium - to be fair against other people who uses only vue - i never will make such an mistake. see you

Wonderful image and I feel that people are getting a little to picky and worrying more about who is in the top positions than viewing wonderful images for the enjoyment. I don't post in the galleries here for just that reason. Everyone does post work, and it should not count against anything. THIS IS ART... Adding you to my favorites for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the work! and I post my stuff here and Poser even though I go a great deal of post work myself... so keep it up!

Don't you DARE leave Mixed Medium, I know what you mean about using many programs to make an image and where to put them, but Mixed Medium is the right place for work like this. By the way, excellent job on the scene arrangement and post work. Making an image blend is the hardest thing to do, but you make it look easy!

I have left this image uncommented for some time for a reason. Because I have watched with a lot of interest the way people view Renderosity and its galleries. J, you know i absolutely LOVE your art work, I too am a great fan of postwork, and I appreciate the time and effort that went into this extrodinary picture! My feeling on which gallery you post in actually has nothing to do with which one you SHOULD post in, because I feel its irrelevant. This pic is obviously heavily Vue based, and so it deserves to be here anyway. But moreso its up to you to decide which program had most influence.... I'm getting this all wrong.. What I'm trying to say here J, is that no mater what OTHER programs you use, your art deserves to be seen and commented on. I for one am glad you post here... Long may it continue.... Kutter

I continue keeping that which I said: I believe that it is the prettiest picture that I have seen in a lot time. ;)

excellent !!!

I've seen this issue before (in a gallery on a site far away). Imho communication is the key. If you provide brief comment (i.e. Poser figure, buildings in 3DS etc.) people can assess your work as a piece of art (as it should be) or as a piece of Vue d'Esprite (or whatever gallery you post in) if they so wish. Excellent work regardless:}

Dear Uwe. When you want to generate a personal outstanding work there is no limit what programs you might use to enhance it. Are there any rules regarding postwork in Vue gallery? This remembers me the discrimination of some traditional galleries againt digital art. Vue is an wonderful program but I think the en-on people, for the sake of keep it price low, are "burning" some plug ins that drag some users to use postwork to achieve an artist real-looking ilusion. Besides, I am anxiously waiting the release 5. Thanks for the tutorial. Yours is an excellent image anyway!!!
danob
You post your outstanding work wherever you want my friend!! The fact is plain and simple to produce certain high quality effects it is better to be able to use your talents to enhance any image despite what purists may say about it.. Its an age old debate.. Maybe its one reason why so many Post in other places such as Mixed Medium where no such problems would arise..

Well, I'm rather pissed off that poor Uwe feels an appology is necessary for putting this fabulous work here. Do not say you're sorry anymore, Uwe! This work is fantastic in any gallery and i'm sure MOST people here love the fact that it's here in Vue.

Nice picture however I agree with bigbraader and Thomas. and I must admit, I too was surprised to see how much Vue-work there was in this piece. The purpose of categories is to use them correctly. And if there is as much post work as there is on this excellent artwork it should be mentioned from the start so there is no miss leading intent to others who might think Vue could do all of this post work. I have heard several times in the past comments on other artwork such comments as "too much post work for me" Or "what post work was done?" from artist here. I don't think this is a jealous thing at all, as gallimel put it very well just follow the rules and this won't even happen. Now how a tutorial makes the hot20? Is curious to me, perhaps it is a way for all who feel you have been miss treated to make you feel better. I just think honestly it is part of the Vue challenge to use as little post work as possible. Every month the Vue community has a challenge and NO POST WORK is the rule. So why not stick to it? Not to discount your abilities Jarling. I mean you have done album covers and have much success with your art. It seems with as much experience that you have this all should make good sense to you and from reading your replies I think perhaps it does. Best regards, shoop

Hi J. I am fairly new to this website and haven't really contributed much to it as of yet. I have probably spent more time looking at your work than looking at anybody elses in here. I would just like to say that I find your work incredible and extremely inspiring. Thankyou for your kind words relating to my efforts that i have posted. What else can I say but EXCELLENT EXCELLENT work. MINTY.
