The only sounds to fill the chamber were the crackling of fire, the sigh of wind, the clanking of chains and the desperate, whimpering breathing of the girl on the altar. After that, she'd awakened, in spare excuse for clothing, chained in this horrible chamber. She knew, of course. No child was raised in the country who didn't know about the Dark Lord. But he was supposed to be myth! He didn't really exist! The cool breeze in the heated air was her only warning. A pause in her struggles, to look up and see... Him!
