bhodiNUT fresnel and gradient was used for the atmosphere layer and the surface layer together with the imagemaps. Clouds are only very high resolution map.

Excellent stuff. But surely the Earth is flat? ;) Apart from that, I don't know if the tutorial is for 3D World Magazine, but these pics should go to their gallery.
