Description

Always loved this model (released by AMT under the Star Trek name)...I treid to duplicate the box cover here, but only by memory, so it's not perfect.

Another bit of sci-fi trivia...the AMT model caught the eye of other sci-fi greats as well...Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle used the AMT Lief Erikson as the starter inspiration for the battleship MacArthur that figured so prominently in the novel 'Mote in God's Eye'... So your render has a most distinguished pedigree....

Odd, my first comment vanished when I posted my second. I wonder what will happen when I post this third one. To clue in viewers, I originally pointed out that this model kit was designed by Matt Jeffries of Star Trek fame and it was, in fact, a rejected concept for the classic Enterprise. Sincerely, Bill

I knew the Niven/Pournelle connection; did NOT know the Matt Jeffries connection (he died last week, BTW). First saw this AMT model as a youngster in its original non-glowing incarnation - no amount of pleading would 'convince' my parents to give me an advance on a month's worth of allowances! Never saw it again until at least 10 years later, when the glow-in-the-dark version was released. I bought it then, and probably still have it in my basement, although I might have lost the little shuttlecraft along the way... Thanks for the memories!

A little late on the comment.... Brings back great memories. I seem to recall that the little shuttlecrafts design was pretty cool. The rest of the ship looked like someone had started off with a bottle. Also, I had gotten the glow in the dark one in 1973 which would have only been 3 yrs after star trek.
