Description

Hi all, just dropping off an idea of mine. Using caustics, learning how to set things up and i thought id give something a shot. Every object we make in lw (or just about) is all about surfaces. Volumetric lights and Hv's add more to our images, yet i havnt seen any Volumetric objects. (such as water for a glass) Im sure the way i see things isnt the proper way though, Boolean seems to be the answer for what im talking about. for instance, in this image, ive combined 3 cubes, one within another. Using transparency and tranlucent maps. its also my first real run at using caustics. Came out well i think.

This is very excellent, but what the hell it has to do with caustics or volumetrics is beyond me, to put water in a glass I generally offset the inner face of the glass to make a new object then adjust it accordingly, it's volume is achieved by adjusting the refractive index tab on the Properties dialogue box plus other things like incidence angle and falloff in the ambience and luminosity channels, as for caustics they only turn up if you shine a light through the water causing it to act in a lenticular fashion............ ;-)
