Description
It seems so routine a maneuver now days, everything does... now days. But back then... man I swear to you, we thought we could fly. It had been thought impossible at the time, that a mech of any kind could "Jet Jump" a mountain and attack an entire armored outpost. But the commander led us in anyway.
We just boosted over the peaks and landed right behind the unprotected rear of the basin outpost. I still remember the lump in my throat and the small shudder of impact at touchdown. The commander was the first in (as always) and headed straight for the communication control bunker. There was no resistance, no fight. The crews weren't even to their tanks yet. They had not adjusted to the 52-hour day as the rest of us had upon arrival, at the commander's insistence of course.
Corporal Teakus jumped in right after I did, and we went to work on the row of tanks in front of us and pushed our way in from there. To my knowledge it was the first time in history that tactic was used in mobile armor warfare. It must have been quite a sight to see 3 light-combat mechs landing in your back yard.
