Most of the basic textural elements were made in Artmatic. The figure was rendered in poser for reference, then completely redrawn in photoshop, where most of the real work took place: selecting, copying, pasting, color and layer adjustments.

Forget that comment about the pencil and paper. I guess I'm just prejudiced against japanese cartoons.
