Description

This is my second go at this image. I'm posting it full size, but I had to reduce the quality a bit. Before I had too much blur, and I'd lost all shadow detail due to my layering method. In fact, somebody sent me very rude messages and accused me of just running filters on a photo. Well, if you still think that now (even after I showed you my sketch before painting the colors in), then that's fine by me. I'll take it as very high praise that anybody would think this looks like a photograph, because frankly I don't think it's anywhere near quite that good. I've also done some touch-ups here and there, and I changed the dress and eye color to blue. Why? I just like blue. The spiral binding and the paper texture were put back in postwork because this started out as a sketch and I feel it loses something when it looks strictly computer made and clean. Opinions are wanted. I appreciate constructive criticism. Constructive being the key word. I don't take kindly to people who flame with no apparent reason. You know who you are, but I'll bite my tongue and not name names. This was made with a picture of Natalie Portman as my reference. If anybody wants to see it, I'll gladly send you a copy.

The area between her eyes seems flat. Bring out the lips a litle more. Looks close to a real photo though. Looking forward to the final pic.

nice work! I realy enjoy this type of work. It is what I like to do myself, except i only have psp6 to work with for color and post work. I love to draw from photographs. I like what you have done to "nat" :)

Some folks have issues and should not be allowed online either. This is well done.

Original photo for comparison: http://www.natalieportman.com/images/magazines/BB-nov1997_2.jpg . You did a good job on the hair but the face is still 90% photo with some burned lines to accent edges. If you applied some blur to the hair and reduced its contrast it would blend more naturally with the photo. Definitely not as blatant as the last posting. I just don't understand why you insist this started as a sketch. Photo credit goes to Cliff Watts, for Harpers Queen (October 1996).

Precarious, I am really trying to bite my tongue here and not snap at you. Why can't you just admit that you were wrong? I showed you my drawing before it was colored, and I even offered you my Photoshop file with all my layers. Yet still, all you do is leave me rude messages. Why don't you take the photo of Natalie stick it on a PS layer over my image and then turn it on and off a couple times to compare, and you'll see that they are not the same, and it's quite blatantly obvious at that. Before I used a lot of contrast and blur, so I can understand you thinking I might have just run filters on a photo, so why not just call it an honest mistake and move on? But if you still insist this is a photo, okay fine, I take that as a compliment. Thank you.

Personally, I really don't care if it was a photo at one time - and AliasAngel I'm not saying I think it was (in fact, I believe you - I haven't seen your uncolored sketch). Your work here is obvious, and I have only one small helpful thing to point out - her teeth need some work. The way they are offset jars the whole picture a little. Thanks for a great pic!

I've had a look at a couple of your pieces, Angelin Jolie and Liv Tyler inspired ones and from the thumbnails I was impressed. Although I could tell they are not photos and the obvious product of a hell of a lot of very hard work I non the less had to tell my brain that this was not a real photo (stupid brain :oD ) - I'm impressed, very very impressed, I've added you as a Fav Artist and am waiting to see your next one, you capture a realism that words cannot quantify - I'm gobsmacked :o)
