Description

... this image started out just as a test to see if I could make a spider's web, but soon it developed into one of the most complicated and difficult scenes I've worked on so far ;o) - The web itself was difficult enough - it's alphaplane work, I'm still not satisfied with it (nor the image as such). Then I decided to go for the look of an early autumn morning with fog and dew on the cobwebs in the grass. I didn't know how to make it, and at one time the file was up to 80 mio polygons - no bullshit! Incredibly, Vue, although dragging heavily, was able to save the file, it took 20 min. Of course I had to do some re-thinking ;o) and I did. The actual file is now down to 18 mio. polys. ***************** Spider and web are alphaplanes, based on pictures from the...web ;o) The large trees are Xfrog models, the rest is Vue with my textures. Buck from Zygote/DAZ (nice to get a chance to use it). Postwork in PS: Color/levels correction, some filtering effects - and signature. ***************** Thanks for looking, hope you like it. Comments always more than welcome.

Wow, different perspective to say the least. I like the concept a lot but the image seems almost too busy with the water in the trees. Flood? Keep working on this concept. Sometimes more is less and less is more. Blair

Wow, the web looks terrific, BB; just as if it had morning dew on it. Love the composition and coloring; maybe a different ground mat or something, but image is wonderful.

I'd like to thank you all for your kind comments so far. Myself, I'd like to add an additional comment, explaining the look of the ground texture: It's by far the best achievement (IMHO) in this picture, trying to depict the dew on the countless spiderwebs on the ground. It looks strange, my interpretation for one, but it does so in real life as well, often it looks as if the ground is covered with frost, water or something. Maybe you disagree, but for me (after numerous trial-and-errors) I got the look I wanted.

Like Arborist, although I find much to admire in this piece, I'm not entirely sold on the overall composition. But I have to disagree with your assessment of the web in your introductory comments - I cannot see how that could be improved. The structure looks right, the way it shimmers in the light is superb, and the little droplets of dew on the anchor threads are the perfect finishing touch.

Once again, thanks for your wonderful comments on this work. Actually, I do not disagree with some of the comments on the overall composition - I'm not completely happy with it. A bit overloaded, or busy, as Arborist calls it. I have a tendency to get carried away in the details and adding stuff, for me that's part of the fun ;o)
