Description

"Wouldn't it just be easier to apologise to the Horrible Gelatinous Blob for spilling his drink so we can leave?" The result of wondering what the 'real' people that the cartoon characters in Matt Groening's 'Futurama' are based on might actually look like! I wanted to be as accurate to the cartoon as possible while being as realistic as possible and avoiding the characters looking too grotesque! Vicki 2 and Michael 2 from Daz. 'Treadz' morphing boots also by Daz. Cyclopeia for Vicki 2 by Dcort. Jacket is the free cyber-jacket for Michael by Runtime DNA. Gun also by RDNA. Corridor and morphing tentacle by Jenay, textured by me. 'Futurama' is, of course, copyrighted and trademarked to Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

Very nice job. I also saw the thumbnail and thought "Futurama". Now, do Hermes and Professor (which should be easy) and Dr. Zoidberg (which should be hard)! One suggestion, though: I think Leela's one eye should take up more space on her forehead- about the same space as a normal person's two eyes.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm working on the Professor and Amy right now. Actually, Zoidberg I think will be easier than Bender. Getting Bender to look mechanically 'real' and losing his cartoony qualities while keeping his general appearance is going to take some thought! As for Leela's eye, you could be right. I did try it bigger at one stage, but it just didn't look quite right to me - so I compromised eventually at just slightly bigger than a 'normal' eye.... Thanks for looking!

There is a Bender model for Unreal Tournament 2003, I bet you could export that out into 3DMax or lightwave without too much difficultly.

Thanks for that, TNVWBOY. I actually have a Bender model for Poser somewhere. The difficulty is actually not so much the modelling as what he should look like - in the cartoon he works brilliantly but keeping his exact appearance wouldn't work in the 'real' world as (IMO) he's still look too cartoony. What I have to arrive at is a mechanically feasible figure that still keeps the essential Benderness that we all all know and love. Kill all humans! ;-)

I LOVE Futurama! This is just too cool. They do bear a remarkable, yet realistic, resemblance to their cartoon counterparts. Oh, I love the Bender-head grafiti, too, that's a nice touch. I'd love to see more of these!

Wonderful, my only problem is that Fry doesn't look quiet dorky enough...but I suspect that it's hard to unMike him....I can hardly wait for the others!

if you need the Planar building, or the ship, I have models for them (tho probably not this detailed..;) someone else has also done the building recently, and it's more detailed..now if I could just remember who..;)

I started laughing the minute I saw the thumbnail, and the full-size met all expectations.....The eye is just large enough and sited well...I have to agree, though, Fry looks a little TOO good...maybe a weaker chin? Or more dilated eyes? Adding you to my list of 'to watch' artisans in this space....I'd love to see Zoidburg done up! Excellent work!

I always kinda thought fry looked sorta good. Not a male model but not bad looking by cartoon standards lol. His expression is deadon to what fry would proly would have lol.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did get tired of translating the alien text. :)

Fortunately, there's an online translator.
