Description

I have been working on this model for about a week. It is modeled and textured in Maya The total Face count is like 320,000. It is a highly detailed model. I first modeled it in using cvcurve tool and revolving it. I then converted to subd and then to poly. I then deleted all the faces except the ones I needed for each section. Once I finished modeling each faced section I duplicated with degree changes. the fun part about this model was calculating the angles for the duplications based on the number of faces. Now I know what my math teacher meant when she said I would use this stuff some day. This is just a render to show the detail of this model. I am not familiar with Maya texturing as I just bought the program in June. I still have to add a bump map for the line indentions that are thoughout the whole surface. Stay tuned for a scene that it will be included in also. Modeled on a PIII dual 1Ghz 2 GB PC133 RAM GeForce 4TI 4600 128 MB DDR Programs used: Modeled in and textured Maya 5 Unlimited

Hey Greg, your modeling techniques are bordering on the hollywood professional level and teetering on the brink of insainity. This is an excellent model and I cant wait for you to use it in a scene..

wow, got the font and everything..;) I've done one, not nearly this good..the pictures from the show, if you look closely, are iron-like in outdoor shots, but almost aluminum when you see the sets..go figure..;) This is great, the dtd should be a piece of cake compared to this (just an extruded sphere section..easy to do in Wings and import). The center effect (only 1 chevron encoded, but who cares..;) can be done with a spotlight behind a relatively flat terrain (I used a lattice, and smoothed it bunches) and textured with a opaque glass mat, but the render time goes up into the 'hours' part of the clock..;) Ya got the chops, this looks great..keep 'em coming.

If you are refering to the one that Wade Valentine made in 3Ds max then you are wrong. Wades model is pretty detailed but not as detailed at mine. While doing my research for good Stargate pics on the net I ran accross his model. I did not in any way use his model and created my own based on the picture close ups in the series credits. Thanks for the accusation though, it means I did a good job making this model myself. Wade's model is good but was off on a couple details though ;) This one I did myself and I modeled it exactly to the tee front and back. Here is a link to the building process for the accusational peole and for ones who might be interested in how I made it. http://delicdesign.com/maya/stargate/

I just posted a quick wireframe pic in the tutorial section of the link posted above. Feel free to check it out. It will take me a good 24 hours to get my tutorial section set up so keep checking.

this is a great model but I think you need to work on the texturing it just looks a bit to shiny and clean maybe dirty it up a bit? plus the liquid effect looks a little to clay like and out of place a bit. but overall it looks good, well done.
