Description

Located directly behind the eyes, attached to the third ventricle, the pineal gland (referred to as the "third eye") secretes seratonin and melanin during times of relaxation and visualization. After physical relaxation, concentration upon the pineal gland is achieved by staring at a point in the middle of the forehead. Without straining the muscles of the eye, this will activate the pineal gland and the 'third eye'. In the trance condition, Oliver Fox could will himself to ascend through the 'pineal door.' Beginning with the withdrawal of the senses and the physical consciousness, the consciousness is centered in the region of the pineal gland. The perceptive faculty and the point of realization are centralized in the area between the middle of the forehead and the pineal gland. The awareness is gathered at the pineal gland, ready to leap out of the trap door. The trick is to visualize, very intently, the subtle body escaping through the trap door of the brain. A popping sound may occur at the time separation of the astral body in the area of the pineal gland. (Abridged from text by Rich Snyder) Having had my first lucid dream in the summer of 1995 when approaching 21, I researched the subject for a while when I was studying graphic design at art college, chiefly to provide inspiration for a project (the subject of which we were free to choose). Among the multitude of helpful techniques I read about (for both inducing and sustaining the lucid dreamstate) one was the "pineal door" technique which Snyder describes above. I tried it a couple of times back then, but only succeeded in giving myself a headache through eye strain! Now though, having had a bit more experience of subconscious thought via my imagery (and also my music to an extent), perhaps it's time to reread this material and try techniques such as this again. I am not religious but regarding spirituality I try to keep an open mind, since I am personally unable to prove nor disprove, and feel that this subject does not demand the absence of science. We only use a tiny fraction of our brains and the remaining percentage is only beginning to be explored ;-) I should point out that this image was not conceived with this subject in mind; it is purely the abstract outcome of experimentation, and the result inspired the theme of the pineal door. It is not fractal-based, nor is it vector-based. It evolved over a couple of hours, using Bryce 5 and Photoshop 7. Original size: 4608x4608 pixels. As always I want to thank you for your opinions and criticism :-)

The problem I have with my pineal door is that has a security lock, I hear things from the other side... rusty gears spinning... the humming and churning of old machinery, but I just can't bust that lock. Beautiful image, I'm going to stare at it for a couple of hours and see if it takes me to some lucid state.

Thank you SO much for creating this Jim! It would probably take an essay to tell you why, so I won't do that, but I will say that you have set so many cogs into place in my weary brain that its actually moving L BRILLIANT work my friend! I'm afraid I must correct your source though ;) - The Pineal Gland is located in the mid-brain "(Gray's Anatomy)" and is made of a similiar substance as eyes. It is purported that the Pineal Gland is the moderator of emotion and where our experiences imbed themselves on our psyche. Thanks for sharing buddy! hugest hugs

Thanks for correcting me Cassie, obviously my sources are suspect. With this kind of subject one always has to be careful and study from different angles :-D

when you speak about lucid dreams Iam always so fascinated. Here the artwork has all the magic and deep senations I guess I'd feel if I could have the same experience (yet I didn't). I am very impressed :)

A great image, even if I don't feel the connection to the third eye so directly. It is a fascinating issue, I have read a lot but not experieced it myself. And I have only had one lucid dream, i would very much have more...
