Description

A few years ago I was diagnosed as suffering from depression. Treatment and changes of circumstance led to my recovery but what I remember most of all from those bad times are the reactions of my friends. People said things like, "Wow, Paul. I can't believe it of you; you're one of the happiest, most well adjusted people I know." Which made me feel pretty much like the illustration presented here. Many thanks to igohigh for remapping the DAZ t-shirt. Texture, pose, lights and postwork by me. Thank you for your attention.

Been there done that, and you have captured it perfectly (cept for the fact I have white hair!!!!!). Congradulations on 'our' recoveries.

I have to second this. I know EXACTLY what you mean. Glad you got better. I know it wasn't easy. :/

Excellent work. The paper looks incredibly realistic! "Yeah, I'm doing fine."

This is simply excellent. I know the feeling (well, not the "diagnosed as suffering from depression" part, but the illustration itself). Excellent work.

What I appreciate is how you use the medium to share personal experience--judging by the responses above, your experience resonates with others, and that's the best result you can hope for when you create an image.

Beautiful, emotive and incredibly powerful image. So simply done and so effective at showing that hated "happy mask." I love the use of the bleeding Superman emblem. No one is impervious to pain, but it certainly takes something to let others see it.

I think most artists go through depression, how many of you guys have physical scares as well as mental ones?

Do you ever feel the pain in someone's smile? I do. But, I wonder if they can feel mine, or do my teeth blind them?
