Description

The day is coming... the Day of the Ninja! Adapted from the "Official 2003 Preface to the Original Comic Book Adapation": In 1989, my friend Kurt and I wrote the classic tale, Day of the Ninja. In 1990, I decided to try my hand at creating a graphic novel from what we had written. The results, were, well, shall we say, less than spectacular. Sure, I could blame it on the technology- I was using an Apple II GS with only 256 colors and a dot-matrix printer that used a color ribbon. Pretty primative by today's standards! But, let's be honest... I couldn't draw people to save my life! Sure, the graphic novel retained all witty dialog, but it was always missing that special "something". It's now 2003 and I have decided to revisit our tale by making a "Special Edition" graphic novel. I also have a chance to go back and correct all the things that were missing in the original and add back the scenes that were too costly to include... like the scene with Jabba the Hutt. (Oh, sorry, wrong "Special Edition".) Now remastered and digitally enhanced, the reader can finally experience Day of the Ninja as it was meant to be read. --- On the left is the new, 2003 version of page 3; on the right, the original 1990 version. Unfortunately, the original files have long since been lost. The image on the right is actually a scan of the print-out of the file... complete with defects from the color ribbon! (Page 1 is the cover and page 2 is the preface, so page 3 is the first "real" page in the comic.) I'm currently working on the rest of the book... and it will probably take a while to complete, but here is a little taste of things to come... And, yes, this will be avialable in printed form- the original images are meant to fit on standard 8.5x11 paper! ------------- Character created and rendered in Poser 4: Mike 2 with clothing pack and WonderWedge hair. Explosion made in Lightwave: colored hypervoxels. Composited and lettering done in Photoshop. Computer by HP, tablet by Wacom, Expert Mouse by Kensington, OS by Microsoft, table and chairs by HON, house by Morisson Homes, electricity provided by Progress Energy, and artist created by Mr. and Mrs. Hoagland. Trust me, this is in the spirit of the comic! If you are reading this for the first time, here is some navigation help: Page 1, Page 4
