Smoke tentrils trail around the slumbering beast, its groaning snores making the ground tremble. For somewhere that is so close, NZ could be another world. Thank you so much for posting this and transporting me to this most alien landscape hugs

So hard to tell the size of it to me, looks small?

It was actually quite a large mass, far bigger than a person. I couldn't arrange a shot to better demonstrate its relative size unfortunately, as the geothermal activity makes it very hazardous to go off of the pathways.

Great picture, this looks so alien when viewed from this side of our globe. Now come on Mneme stop being so greedy and share more of these scenes, two pictures is but a teaser!

Having been there, I know how hard it can be to get a good shot when those thermals steams are thick. You can even see where the mud has bubbled and broken the surface, so that's pretty good going! And Craters of the Moon is just my favourite place in NZ, but then I grew up in the area, so maybe I'm biased. Thanks for putting this pic up and sharing it with everyone. Hugs

I could've sworn I'd commented on these before! I have a pretty good idea of the scale from the size of the ferns, so maybe a standing person would take up between a third and half of the height of the shot. A fascinating place by the looks of things, maybe I'll visit one day.
