I see before me a piece that is reminiciant of the works of Kit Rae. The sword looks more like a dagger in proportions. Perhaps you might consider making the blade a bit longer, and removing the cutouts twards the front of the blade. It would give it more of a sward feel, and lend it to seem to be more functional.

Thanks for the comment. It's true that the works proprotions differ from what is typically shown for a weapon of this length. The hilt was extented to accomdate the skeletal arm and hand. As depicted the blade length would be about 12-16 inches, which places it in the grey area between dagger and short sword. This was orginally designed as a draft for actual steel production. If it were actually produced, you are correct, the cutouts would have to be modified. As currently designed, the cutouts would likly lead to the blade fracturing along the steels crystal structure, from the base of the cutouts. This is particularly true on the guard/outriders and along the point of the blade.
