Description
She had finally been called in for her interview. She stood up, straightened her skirt and blouse and opened the door to the main office. What met her eyes made her catch her breath. This was no normal office. The first thing that struck her was the bank of large air-con vents along the top of each wall that lead to the largest window she had ever seen. Although heavily smoked, New York was clearly visible beyond. It was only now that she realised how high up she was.
The huge room was lit from above and from lights concealed behind the grating of the air vents. She looked down for a second at the floor. Was that water under the glass floor? Yes! She saw a few tiny fish swim past. She glanced nervously around the empty office, the only furniture a large desk that looked like it was made of a solid piece of granite, near the window. In the semi-darkness, she could just make out a figure sitting behind the desk. The figure took the cigar from his mouth and blew a large cloud of gray smoke into the air before speaking to the young woman.
"Nice boots."
