Deep within the labyrinthine maze of corridors and caverns beneath Orthanc, citadel of the arch-mage, Saruman the White lies the Chamber of the Seeing Stone. It is here, amidst the arcana of the sorcerer's craft and the breeding pods of that breed of super orc, the Uruk'hai, that the "Eye of Orthanc" is jealously kept. The ancient stone fell to Saruman by chance and default after the fall of Numenor and the decline of the high kings of Gondor. That very same stone which resided in the tall tower of Minas Ithil, outpost of Minas Tirth, on the vanguard of the frontier with Mordor. Saruman has covered the stone with a magical pyramid of power whilst he is off to attend to some unsavory business with Gandalf the Grey who has paid a surprise visit. A malevolent glow eminates from under the cover as the ravening, ever questing Eye of Sauron seeks to further the corruption of the wizard. The stone is kept on a platform in the middle of a deep subterranean lake to prevent tampering by the mischievious hands of any newly hatched orc. Though any good hobbit with any sense at all knows orcs despise water and anything clean - what would one expect from creatures who partake of but ONE breakfast and - horrors! - actually eat dessert, if at all, AFTER supper?

I'm so glad you reposted this. It's too stunning not to have here in this gallery. It's an inspiration to all those who would like to see what UF can do in capable hands such as yours. It's a masterful creation. Congrats on a job well done. :)

Hi, Rikk. I repeat my previous comment (yes, there were many problems yesterday evening in Renderosity): Image (beautiful) and history (mysterious and charming) melt themselves giving life to a complete work. You're really an artist. You should do an illustrated book!
Henny31

Absolutely mesmerizing!Terrific imagination ......an artistic and compelling image.I am really drawn to going down the path and spellbound by the floating stone on the left. A truly creative and mind-blowingly fascinating composition, which mirrors so grandly the brilliant story.BRAVO!!!!!!!!

You are the best at doing these images. A master craftsman. The only thing that I would add is a tiny bit of mist off in the distance, like you did in your other orthanic image. The shadows on the sphere are impressive. I would experiment with the halo around it just a little. Be sure to let me know when you do another one these. They are a treat.
