Description

I want to represent you one of the Turkihs traditional arts:"MARBLING"... Marbling, in its purest sense, is the art of coloring in imitation of variegated marble. Turkish Marbling is an artform which emerged from Central Asia and made its way through the Silk Road to Iran, then to Anatolia. 'Ebru', the word for Marbling in Turkish, comes from 'Ebre' in one of the older Central Asian languages meaning 'veined fabric or paper'. In Turkey, as calligraphy took on pivotal importance in theological scholars' art workshops, so did the paper it was written on. Slowly, the paper took on a value of its own, becoming a work of art in the true sense, worthy of being put up in a frame. The specific patterns used in marbling, which are of a minimum of seven, all result from a different brushing technique. The making of marbling is said to have a soothing effect on the artisan as much as the final work has upon any observer enjoying its elegance. HATIP EBRUSU First a zemin ebrusu is made. A second colour is dropped onto the first drops. The number of colours dropped concentrically may be increased as desired. These concentric circles are shaped using a needle. The different figures made in this manner are called yurek ( heart ), tarakli yurek ( combed heart ), Cark-
