interesting pic. I think to increase the realism the smoke should be darker, more spread out and slightly more transparent. Purhapes some artifial cload cover not related to the smoke would also help blend the smoke into the wonderfull landscape.

I love the surface of the island, but I'm too much of a purist to like the postwork :) overall it's great, though the oversaturated colours detract from "realism" and push it more towards "art", perhaps...

The island is very good. The smoke doesn't look natural. Might as well play with DarkFlame's ideas. The main problem is that one column of smoke that is going straight up. Smoke from a volcano billows in different directions; it may favor a given direction (Mount St. Helens blew out one side), but it spreads out with distance. This mountain (which may be Mount St. Helens' DEM) gives you a clue about what direction the smoke will go. It will go toward the place where the edge of the cone is lowest.
