Description
"A Brief History"
JOHN WAYNE WAS BORN MAY 26, 1907, IN WINTERSET, IOWA. HIS CHRISTIAN NAME WAS MARION MORRISON.
ONE OF HIS FIRST AND AWARD WINNING WESTERN MOVIES WAS "STAGECOACH" WHICH WAS FILMED NEAR SHIPROCK, NEW MEXICO.
HIS LONG AWAITED ACADEMY AWARD WAS GRANTED FOR THE FILM "TRUE GRIT" WHICH WAS FILMED AT RIDGWAY, COLORADO.
HIS LAST FILM WAS "THE SHOOTIST" DEPICTING A GUNFIGHTER WHO WAS DYING OF CANCER. THE THEME OF THE FILM CAME TO PASS FOR "THE DUKE. He appeared in over 250 movies over the span of his career.
John Wayne was 69 when he made this movie, he knew he had cancer, and this was to be his final performance. He died three years later, at the age of 72.
John Wayne has always been somewhat of an indication of my growth in my artwork. Every now and then, I do a sketch or digital art piece just to see if I have progressed or not.
I began this piece with a sketch outline of "The Duke". I then took it into PSP8 and painted him with my Wacom tablet. The background, frame, soft focus and set of eyes were also done in PSP8.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I really value your input! Have a wonderful day!...Cheryl

I think you've found him. Even in the disguise of white hair and facial hair it looks like him. Amazing that Bat Masterson and Doc Halliday could not mask his genius for character.

The Duke was one hell of a guy. We could use a few more like him in this day and age, that is for sure. Wonderful work on this Cheryl, I am particularly taken by the shading you used in the face area... very cool coloring too!
