Description

FRACTALIA: A land forgotten by time, a long way from everywhere, and hidden from all but the most fortunate who have discovered it. Many residents come and go; many stay for good, but all are on the same quest: digging for fractal treasure, painting mystical portraits with mysterious digits, and designing eternal sculptures which can be seen but never touched. And everyone who comes here leaves behind an altered landscape, the better for their endeavors. As you might expect, the capital city is Mandalbrottawa. The language spoken is universal. The words Respect and Tolerance are carved over the entrance gate. As you can see, Fractalia's map is dotted with the names of those who have altered the fractal mosaic forever. Is Fractalia a real place? Only YOU can answer that question. A few brief notes: Sorry about the size. But maps, when unfolded, by nature have to be huge. Sorry about the fuzzy text. I tried all 150+ on my computer and only a few were legible at such (by necessity) small sizes. I hope no one is offended by having a bridge or a forest named after them...but there are just so many lakes. And finally, many who have contributed here could not be included. I have used the names of most whom I've met, as well as some of the people whose work I admire. I'll get to the others left out here on my next project...FractaliaPhoneBook. (Just Kidding.) The fractal in this piece was winkled out of FE2.

Brian, this is a lovely concept, and so cleverly done. You're right - this IS a most tolerant, accepting, and loving world! Thanks for honoring that in such a beautiful way.

Very nice done, Brian. A nice tribute and honor to all the UF-users and artists and of course the developer of this unique piece of software: Frederik Slijkerman! Well done.

Great image, Brian! Very nice concept! You wouldn't be interested in selling a small piece of real estate would you?

Extremely clever and a fun image to view, so much to look at, this must have taken a long time to do. A lovely heartfelt tribute to Frederik, UF, and all its users. Very cool.:)

This is very funny and enjoyable. I'm still giggling! I recognize nearly all the names. Too bad people who didn't respect property rights disrupted the UF email list. It was much better when we were one happy community. Thanks for reminding me of how it once was, and ought to be again.
