Description

Arrggg! I so wish I had the time to learn 3D Studio Max!!! I have been trying to get realistic-looking lighting exposure on this statue for about a zillion renders, [OK, so maybe it's only been 30 or so, but it feels like a zillion!], and I just can't seem to figure it out! I have tried several tutorials, but I am beginning to believe that my beloved Bryce just isn't going to give me what I want here. Does anyone out there on 'Osity Land have any pointers for realistic lighting? Any tips? Help Me!!! Help Me!!! Thanks and have a great week! Best Regards...

Using a series of radial lights (very soft 3-10 setting) around the model to sometimes works. Try avoiding pure white light to limuninate the piece Off-whites give a more natural look. Good Luck

You could try the soften shadow adjustment on each light object. WARNING: such adjustment can increase render time dramaticly.

one thing that helps me is the Zenith freebie from madmax.Try a zillion and one.Still looks good. One is Zenith Volume he has.Now calm down.

I don't know what you have tried and not tried. This is more of an issue for the forums, but one thing I know for fact is that you won't have any more luck in 3DS than you would in Bryce. Look at Ornlu's gallery sometime. Bryce is just as good as the best programs out there, for lighting. (short of NO true parallels!) Good luck!

Or you could stop trying to make the lighting look real and shoot for Eye catching lighting. Make the light extremes. Use the shadows to make the imagination fill in the blanks. If you want realistic lighting take a picture. PS. Kick'n Statue!

make the model 20% reflective and reduce the diffusion level by 20. Make the specular halor color rgb 253 253 253. Set speculatiry to 5, and metalicity to 100. Render.

The lighting is not bad at all, Vicki. But, with Bryce, you simply can't use only one radial. You have to go multiple, and don't forget to enable soft shadows.
