Long ugly pause.
Dax glared down at me. "Talk to her before she gets someone killed."
"Hey, she's your kid." The running joke didn't work -- the responsibility for Laurel was painfully mine.
"This is cutting into my soaps. I'm filing for divorce from this family, first thing Monday morning. Mom, can I go to my room now?"
I think we both considered shooting her.
"All right, everybody, say 'cheese.'"
"Eat hot death, Mom."
