Description

photoshop 7 alright, continuing with brushing excercises I've been doing with photoshop. For this I took a lot of reference from one of Dimmu Borgirs promopics. Umm..Dimmu Borgir is black metal band from Norway in case you're wondering. So forget orginality, but it took a while to paint all the details with PS. +thanks for viewing+

There are thousands of pix of menacing hulks in chain mail but the colours, mist and lighting make this something special.

Sure there are, and I'm ready to exploit it the worst way ;0]! what I really thought while I was painting that these heavy metal characters are filled with so much cliches that it's actually a laugh more than horror. Poses, smoke, fire, muscles and medieval weapons are closely linked to the style and they bring a sense of humor to it. I hope there's someone elese laughing too, lol.

I like your brushwork! Using the Photoshop brushes can be quite challenging - still don't know if you're using a mouse or a tablet? Regardless of cliche, subject matter, whatever ... the technique is admirable.

I'm sorry, didn't notice the question before..I'm using a mouse and I haven't tried to paint with a tablet before but hopefully I can invest on one soon.

Invest! A tablet will transform the way you work. Anyone who can produce quality images like this using a mouse gets my respect.

Fabulous work - and I had no idea you were using a mouse. That's incredible!

I like the darker parts that makes it menacing, without looking too much violent. I will check up the band, asking my Norvegians buddies about them firstly. thanx for the tip.

At a first glance I thought you simply extracted one of Dimmu Borgir promo-pics... it looks great, but as you said, as an exercise. Well done!
