Description
As the sun slowly drifts down in the evening, Vicky rests on the docks, just waiting for the sunset.
Inspired by a photograph. Background rendered in Terragen, Vicky by DAZ, Koz's Kyoko hair, and Judy's dynamic beach dress from P5. The docks were modelled and textured by me.

i like this image. it's cool and crisp and fresh. the use of the terragen landscape in the background is very effective. but i think there are some "academic" problems that could be easily solved. first of all is the composition: all of it intersects in the centre - the image being divided into quadrants by the pylons, the point where the ground and character end and the background begins, and where you've placed the central character. the traditional rule is to think in "thirds" and then to subdivide by 3.... also, the texture of the cobblestones doesn't "add" to the overall image - but distracts from the perspective. if there were other visual cues, that might be ok. but the irregular lines of the stones actually take away from the "drama" of the perspective. (not that it should be overdone, either; it might have been ok in the renaissance; but these are more sophisticated, modern times....) in any case, i still like the image. and i hope you don't mind my going on about it this way. cheers!

You've matched the lighting well between the background and the foreground, both the direction and the tone of the light. I like the way the central figure is slightly out of focus, although having the focal point on the ground closer to the viewer is confusing to the eye. I don't know that this needs to conform exactly to the traditional rules- those rules are good solid starting-points for composition, but they can be successfully broken. This image so nearly works for me as it is. It was just the distraction of the dockside surface, moving into focus then abruptly fading into grey, that struck me as not quite right. That said, it's well worth playing with the set up. Try placing the seated figure at the 'traditional' one-third-in-and-one-third-up position (or read up on the Golden section and get even more precise with 61.8% in and 61.8% up). Try cropping to a letterbox image. Have fun. Try the rules, then break 'em. ;)

Phew bit technical around here LOL. Maybe a bit too much foreground is all I would say. The background is great and I like the pose. The foreground depth distracts a bit from an otherwise great pic. I really like this William
