Description

The picture is pretty well 100% Bryce. Consequently modelling the wings of the Cloudcruiser caused me some pain. The clouds were easier.

The clouds are incredible! The cruiser is cool, too, but I thought the background was a photo. Great work!

I love it! The design of the craft is very original and imaginative - and the clouds.. FANTASTIC!

Thanks for your comments. As for the clouds they're terrains, of course, created on the Terrain Editor Canvas and then placed in the scene more or less vertically. I set the paint brush to maximum softness, medium Size and Flow and a fairly high Level and with quick clicks built up the the basic shape of the cloud. I then reduced the Size and Level slightly and repeated the procedure to create a bit of detail. This is rather hit and miss some times you end up with a cloud sometimes just a mess. I used the edge of the Terrain Canvas to create the horizontal cloud base. I also stretched the whole terrain slightly - looks better. I then placed various cloud terrains in the scene to build up a single cloud. Place them so they overlap a bit but slightly behind each-other, if they actually interpenetrate you you get an ugly join line, this way the appearance of a single cloud mass is quite convincing. Set the terrains more or less vertically but all at slightly different angles to get the best light effect. For the thunderheads position one of them angled away from the sun so it's completely in shade this will merge with the thunderhead terrain that's in the light and create a strong feeling of a single 3D cloud lit from one side. I also put a big flat terrain horizontally at the bottom of the clouds. It's not really visible but it casts a wide shadow on the sea adding to the 3D effect of the cloud. The material is a plane white with 100% Diffusion, Specularity and Metallicity and 25% Ambience (no Bumpiness). Phew.. I think that covers everthing!

wowwww! this rox! althoug the cruiser doesn't convince me, (it looks more than a isolated birdwing with a building on top, rather than one flying object; but technically well done) but the clouds are way far outstanding!! beeing quite a lot up there, i have seen alot in natural, and this ones come very close. and thanx a mega-lot for the tutorial....don't be surprised, if you see clouds in my next pitures.. :)))))))))))))))))
