Description

Haven't done anything in LightWave in a long while and I was getting kinda stuck on modeling buildings, so I decided to go back to my futile attempts at organics. This is WIP no. 10 in my never ending struggle to get my earth elemental done. Still tons of work to do on textures, specially to the cavern wall. I might add a few other rocks and outcroppings in the water, but I haven't really decided what the light source in front of the figure is all about... tourist with a flash perhaps? As you can see, this is only a lighting test. Thank you very much for taking the time to snicker and view. :o)

Cool work! Looks really nice. What about some christaline formations on the skin? Some simple pointed hexagons and octagons should be easy to do and they would distinguish the earth elemental from a mud elemental. If you made those christals glow in blue or green, youd also get an alternative light source. Perhaps you could also give him some kind of asymetrical "armor" made of bits of roock on the shoulders.

Did you create the figure with NURBs? Maybe you can use a procedural texture to deform the surface a bit instead of only using it as a bump texture. I'm not great with organics either. Looks like you're doing great so far. Keep us posted, Moe.

You had better stop this, or you're gonna get a reputation as an organic modeler 8^)

Elemental is looking good Moe, like the texture. I think you've done a great lighting job, I agree with you about the camera flash, the pic really has that look about it that you see in photos taken in caves.

reminds me of the excrimental from dogma, not that i'm saying it's sh*t : ) i've been telling you for ages that your problems with organics is psychological and nothing to do with lack of talent........ great work so far... how about making the pool a pool of lava (seeing that it's deep in the earth) that would solve yer lightsource probs .....

Reminds me of that , i think jewish mystical figure, a Golem.. It is a kind of avatar modeld in clay and brought to life .. Funny that the "Frankenstein syndrom" has equivilants in many culteres. Im inclined to say "Feed him with tourists" but i guess hel have digestion problems having a stomach made of earth lol

Looks very nice. Only problem I have is the left hand looks like it might be a little oddly posed. Most likely wrong though as I am no Earth Elemental expert or a LW expert so who knows. But yeah your still one of my favorite LW artists and even though you have trouble organic modeling its better then most can do including myself.

I agree that the lighting could use a little more work. Did you model him in that pose or did you rig him? I can't really see anything wrong with him. He doesn't seem to be that detailed though. Sniker...j/k ;)

Great pic Moe, looks to me like he's been suprised by a couple of pot-holers, who are probably just as suprised as he is lol. The figure is coming along nicely mate, keep up the good work

Reminds me a lot of an old Romanian legend... "Mul ptului" or "ncul ptului" - a kind of mystical creature that lives in the bowels of the earth and is greatly disturbed by people digging for gold - it is known to be very dangerous, and althogh the stories are long ago gone from our mentality, there are still some mines here, in Romania, were really strange things have happened - nobody can explain what... "ncul ptului", maybe? The thing looks just like I have always imagined it! Great job! I'm no LightWave master, like you, but I still can say that, to me, the right hand look a little weirdly posed. Other than that, looks just great! Courage, courage - making organic stuff should be just as easy as making buildings, for you - it's just another kind of architecture. Can't wait to see the final pic.:) Figure looks very good so far
