For more than 20 years I have worked as a technical writer and commercial designer. My primary focus has been on print and Web design and I'm just now exploring the many incredible tools that exist to create 3D work. My main tools are Poser and Clip Studio Paint, which I use to create comic book style line art. I am also published an Origins Award winning Wild West game called GUTSHOT (see www.hawgleg.com for more info).

Iv'e seen much worse on game covers! The overall composition is fine, and the lighting is N/A, after all, in the "Real" world he would be backlit by the moon, on a dark night! So I accept it for what it is, dramatic lighting of your subject. The only thing that seems off, is the textures, or more specifically a need for more bump, and less specular. I fight this problem too a lot with 3D pieces. People end up looking "Plastic", and I find I have to crank down the specular highlights, and give them some kind of light bump texture, to break up the large areas of solid color. Just a suggestion. Otherwise I really like this image, for what its intended for!

Yeah, I fight against the "plastic" look a lot (and it's not just a Poser problem). I agree with you that the lighting needs another tweak, though. I'm also hoping the new Mil Horse model from Poser will let me add some expression to the mount. I think a startled look would help increase the drama. I'll probably be revisiting this piece later this year, so thanks for the suggestions.

missed this one, what I like about it, is it has an old book cover look to it, I think. Have you got poser 5? you can do wonderful textures with the materials room
