Description

I read an article in a Swedish popular science magazine about ants and their relationship with the carnivorous plants of the nepenthes genus. It had a wonderful profile shot of the plant and I had to try to make in Cinema. The model was lofted and the textures are a mix if scanned images (partly from the magazine) and edited through BP2. Projection painting was used to apply them to the mesh. I used HDRI lighting (DOSCH Nature probe) with spotlights and simulated SSS on the cover leaf using Translucency Pro v1.1. Slight post work done to sharpen and to give that hazy look. I also got to use my ant again =) Thank you for viewing!

Excellent work Dez: texture and lights are really excellent ! Compliments ! Arisaema count about 150 species, to tell the truth, this one I never seen, did u know wich one is ? A wonderfu species is Arisaema sikokianum, with red wine/bordeau colors and a cream whit calice ! ;)

Thanks all! Hey jddog, after doublechecking, I found that I incorrectly interpreted the latin genus name from the swedish common name and it should correctly belong to the Sarracenia genus, and not to the arisaema genus. I also changed the title =P

Excellent lighting. It looks so realistic, I didn't know that Cinema had this much potential.

Impressive, truly impressive! It strikes me as beeing somewhere in between photo realism and non realism (something with the plant's surface that makes it look to "hard"). Don't get me wrong, the image is amazing in every aspect, I just get the feeling that this is what the movie Antz could have looked like if they had pushed the work just a little bit :) Mycket, mycket bra, Peter!

It is strangely real in appearance, the loft trunk shape of the plant pulls me into the image, the bodypaint 2 work is fantastic- Could you create a tutorial on this, it is absolutely wonderful image
