Description
Jessie stepped forward nervously as she surveyed the baby lying in the growth capsule. It was around six months old, the growth capsule was the final stage in the birth procedure. Her embryo had been extracted a few weeks into the pregnancy, the hospital then ensured a healthy, genetically engineered baby at the end of the incubation period, for a small fee the dangers and pain of childbirth were easily dismissed. The lid had already been opened by the medical staff and an auxilary sustenance tube had been attached to the baby's naval. Slowly, with trembling hands, Jessie reached out and hooked her hands underneath the baby's backside and head.
Instantly, the baby stirred. "Gross! It moves!" Jessie said, pulling her arms away, clutching them close to her chest. Jessie moved closer, leaning her head down to the baby's, for a moment she watched, the baby's breath barely registering on her face as the teenager's own breath blew down onto the infant. Suddenly, the baby twitched, it's eyes locked onto the seventeen year old's and, without warning, it began to scream. "Whoa!" Jessie jumped back. "Hey, um..." she swallowed and glanced around, nobody around to help her out, the medical staff giving her time alone with her child. Jessie put her finger up to her lips. "Hey, ssh, don't cry..." she stammered. "Oh Jesus, don't make me pick you up...c'mon give me a break!" she whined. The baby screamed louder, it's high pitch scream shot through Jessie's ears, freaking out, with few options Jessie reached out to the baby and hooked her fingers around it again. At arms length she began to lift the child upwards and off the metal base of the capsule. "Hey there...oh this is so gross" she muttered. "...I guess that capsule's not very comfortable." Jessie sighed. "Look kiddo, I'm not too thrilled about all this myself, I guess you're not that thrilled either, but you gotta help me out okay? I mean, I'm not too good with all this Mommy shit so how about we make a deal, you go easy on me, and I won't give you hell when you get pregnant at my age?" She cradled the baby to her chest and, once shakily supported with one arm reached to the baby's face with her spare hand. "What do you say kiddo? Do we have a deal?" she asked, stroking the soft skin of the baby's face.
The baby spluttered and quietened down, cooing slightly to the warm hand of it's reluctant mother. Jessie smiled as she found herself gently rocking the baby. "I'd say that's a yes, wouldn't you?" Jessie sighed and looked around the empty room, she glanced back at the baby and rolled her eyes. "You know kiddo, I'm not sure which of us is going to regret this more." The baby was now heading back asleep. "I guess I gotta find you a name now..."

That's a realistic worried expression. I saw it on a young mother's face once. The babt certainly looks unhappy. Nice work.
