Description

Time for another oldie of mine. :-) This is from 1994. It wasn't prepared, it was a snapshot. A total surprise. I was driving on the embankment of the river Po, near Polesine. You can easily imagine a row of Lombardy poplars at my right, don't you? ;-) Yep in fact, it was there :-) Suddenly, I see this woman's bycicle, there, left by someone who also left her sabots there (you can see one). There was a beautiful light from the setting sun... and I was aksing to myself "where did she go?" I could not see far, because of the embankment. Then I realize, that this was a little miracle. That old bycicle, with the red basket... the sabots... the sunset... it must have been a very common scene, near the river Po, one century ago, when the girls went to work on the fields on their bycicles... their naked feet in the sabots... and perhaps stopped along the road on their way home, in the evening, to drink at a fountain, or maybe to hide and steal half an hour of love with their boyfriends from their families' eyes... I realized it was everything there, in that image: the traditions, and character, of the place... the mystery, with the bycycle and sabots left on the edge of the road: where did she go... the bycicle was just beautiful, and so was the light... it looked like a movie set or something... and, it would have NEVER come back again! So I rushed out to take my camera in the back of the car, took it out, rushed a pose and an exposure, and grabbed it... I was afraid that the owner of the bycicle could come back before I could grab that little bit of magic... but she didn't luckily, and so I had my photo... and after almost 10 years, I still ask to myself: "where did she go?" :-) Nikon FM2, 50mm f1:4 Agfa Portrait negative film. Thanks for viewing - and for reading :-) Orio
