He would have loved to tell them about his deeds, how he had kept the neighborhood safe one more night... but it wasn't like his humans would ever understand. Poor, simple-minded creatures! They didn't know, didn't see what was lurking out there. But he did. And he would make sure his family stayed protected. Tomorrow, the others might win. But not tonight.
