lol, I notice the shadows can't be seen, I don't think you're going to let us know how you did this...

Interesting...plays games with your eyes if you stare at it long enough.

Dude. I just looked at your cube for three seconds and now my eyes hurt. And great too, to see wood material look good, it almost never does. But maybe you'd try and render it with soft shadows?

thanks for the comments everyone. The wood material is a bryce procedural set to "random." I made the illusion by rendering the whole cube, then the cube without the front left and front top supports. I copied would-be-hidden parts from the second cube and pasted them onto the first, feathering and what not to make it blend right. It was rendered using a scattered light dome of 200 lights, so i don;t think soft shadows would be wise,. considering the rendertime ;)

So much like Escher ... and at the same time, better ... because of the realistic wood texture.

You must think you're so clever!! And you are :-( I'll have to think about this for a long time to work out how you did it.

I'm suprised i didnt think of this one first. Did you render it all in bryce or was there some photoshop touches?

I've been wanting to try one of these for a long time. But now I know that even if I knew how you did it I could in NO way top this. In the meantime I've stared at this so long that I'm pretty sure I saw a parallel universe...right after the sharp pain in my temples. lol. Great work on this!! Thanks for turning us on to it! :)
