in the end i managed to get a (4 me) satisfying sotf look. Multi-channel rendered image, with a 7-8 px gaussian blur just in the radiosity channel, done in photoshop. better ideas? pls tell me!

I really appreciate it; I'm not sure, one leaf texture seems not in the good direction, but the whole is a beautiful work ! you can also play with DOF to obtain a similar result

A good way to achieve a soft look is to duplicate the main layer in PS, gausian blur it 2-3x and then lower the opacity to 20-30-40% (settings vary). I always think it gives a nice soft look to my renders and use it on almost every one.
