Description

Hmmm, I guess I should explain... I'd been having problems with Vue frustratingly freezing my machine half-way through renders. It wasn't Vue's fault - my heat sink and fan weren't flush against the chip and my CPU was overheating. But during my attempts to fix the problem I downloaded the latest video drivers. It didn't fix the problem, but it did kill OpenGL support - inconsiderately leaving me wireframed. So I started just playing with atmospheres, alphas and textures until I could sort the rendering problem out. When I did, it all came together in this idiot tribute to OpenGL pointlessness. With that out of my system, perhaps I can get back to something more productive... All Vue 4.2 except an auto balance in ImageReady (my atmosphere was a bit washed out). Karl.

I don't see myself in there anywhere! So this is how Vue works? You drag this tree in a box over to where you want it and then drop it? Cool stuff, I really want to try it but I think my computer would melt. Nice work and interesting image... and story.

Open GL config is the reason I don't use Vue all that much,.............with Bryce 5 you can change from wireframe to OpenGL on the fly, with the version of Vue I have you have to save the image and close out Vue and then re-open the file with Open GL enabled. Maybe this is different in Vue Pro, but quite franly I don't have the $599 or $699 to buy it or even the upgrade price. Heck even though it's a dead application(no plans by anyone for further versions) I can go and buy Bryce 5 for about $79. I wouldn't buy Vue Pro even if I had the money,......it's just too quirky. Nice image, by the way.

LOL Karl! This is a wonderful tribute to the annoyances of Vue Pro. I like what you've done here with your terrains and depth. Your postwork is fantastic!

Despite your problems and frustrations, you have a nice scene here, especially the foreground landscape/grasses and the tree/mound combo. I'm not going past 4.12, too many earlier problems as well, good luck and potential cures.+

Would make for an interesting side converastion on the ways to avoid crashes with Vue Pro. I am glad for you that you seemed to have a least found a livable middle ground for rendering.

I've never been able to get the open GL thingy to work, and I don't care:) I don't really understand the purpose of it anyway. I have no trouble getting things where I want them in wireframe, and as long as things look the way I want them when I render, what does it matter?

you must be using an ATI videocard. I had the same problem. I don't agree however, OpenGL kicks ass. Perhaps not if your using Vue but for everything else its the bomb. I like how it looks with that box. Sometimes glitches are cool. :)
