Description
My first post here. I made this using Max6 and Mental Ray. It uses the Parti-volume shader and caustic photons to create the SSS effect.

I also really love the color. Also an interesting shape.

Delicious -- if art was edible, there wouldn't even be any crumbs left.

Great render, pure and simple. The sub-surface scatter is highly realistic. How long did it take to render? Also, was it the material itself that had those "particles" throughout the glass or did you add those yourself for some extra detail using a noise mat of some sort?

Thank you for the responses and kind words. I've made some adjustments and have the render times down to 21 minutes on a dual MP1600 system. The particles inside the glass are created from the caustics somehow. There's no noise maps or anything special. If I increase the caustic photons, they go away. I opted to leave them in.

That's the tough thing about CG Caustics, the scattering if done right adds a nice dusty imperfection to the whole thing. anything above about 500K photons and you lose that dustiness. This is fabulous.. makes my max 4.2 and Final Render look like kiddy toys. =) we need to see more of these!
