Description

The ship was modeled in Wings3d and Rendered in Bryce. The image of Jupiter and Ganymede is from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and was taken by the interplanetary probe Cassini on it's way to Saturn. The Torpedo Boat is part of a larger project I am working on that details with the history of the Second Solar War. The Torpedo Boat's role is mainly that of short range patrol and interdiction in remote areas. It is armed with six very large (1 meter dia.) long range torpedos which are capable of inflicting severe damage on Capital Class Ships. It's secondary armaments include two batteries of forward firing charged particle guns and eight rapid firing 20-cm missile tubes. The dorsal mounted dual heavy laser turret with a point defense copula completes it's load-out. When operating in Hunter/Killer groups the torpedo boats are a constant threat to Rebel supply convoys and rear areas. To achieve their impressive performance and striking power the range and endurance of the boats was sacrificed. Each squadron of Torpedo Boats is supported by a Tender/ Mother-ship which remains hidden in protected areas. Rebel forces go to great lengths to locate and destroy these tenders whenever possible. The Republic of Earth deploys these fast, agile, and stealthy vessels in large numbers. Captured vessels are greatly prized by the Rebel Forces and a number of heavily modified variants are known.
