Description

First slow day in months, so I got out the packages and started playing around. Don't know if anyone remembers an Escher print called, er..something about 'stairs'..it has been a while since I looked at the reference pics..;)
Anyway, there were sort of what we call 'roly poly bugs' in the pic, so I tried a model in Wings. The Wings version looks pretty good, but I'm not sure about the Bryce render; the joints, etc., tend to disappear with smoothing, but the factets show up without smoothing..choose yer poison..;)
Recycled my 'klimmerundallern' house, put in the 'bugs', one of the mannikins is sunning hisself up on the balcony, and the two drawing hands are playing 'paper/rock/scissors' in the courtyard..not sure about the textures, but enjoy..;)

You've tried to recreate an illusive image. Not possible, becouse Escher abused the 2D paper to make something look like "funny" 3D. So trying to make it in a real 3D environment is not possible. But you've come far I can see. Nicely done, especially the "wentelteefjes" nice image!

When wrong is right and the left and middle control the inside. No turning back now. One of the secrets of a succesful illusion is never to be where you say you are not.

Ascending and Descending I think? I like the original and like your take on it. Interesting angle you've used. As for not being able to do it in a 3D environment, check this, and this one which is great!! Shows you can do it, so keep trying (although I gave up long ago)

Regardless of what others say, the humor you intended is not wasted. Yes, a day off. Perhaps they are out at the pub in the basement of realitivity! :D Excellent Image! I enjoyed this one more than you can possibly imagine!!!! ROCK! ha!

Excellent ideas here! But I have to take issue with Peterbron. It IS possible to make 3d versions of Escher's work...and I'm sure Pakled will back me up on this. This particular image was created very nicely in 3DMax sometime ago. You might want to check my gallery out too. Keep up the great work, Pakled. I know you like Escher as much as I do.

cool pic pak, i have to take issue with the 3d impossibility thing as well, 'tis simply a matter of jerking with the geometry. Any way you can give us a closeup of your rolly bugs?

I used to love Escher books when I was at school.
