Description

*"In my end is my beginning" * Mary Stuart -------- black pencil 2b and 4b on thick paper a4 format, from these stage 1, stage 2, stage 3.Coloured pencils over the 3d stage, with wax pencils for the walls and floors.Total time aprox 1 hour and halffor November's Theme "Chiaroscuro" ---------- This piece subject homages Serious's requests to me of creating a piece involving the former Queen of Scotland Maria Stuart's death. The literary tragedies about her that interested me since young age are those of Vittorio Alfieri and the one of Schiller, but an historical reconstruction of her bold and dramathic life filled with passion, blood and intensity can be found here. I deeply enjoyed the theme for this month, and out from it I have certainly learnt better about the importance of chiaroscuro for atmospheres and realism in artworks but as you see especially in this piece, I still linked to a not fully realistic style, due I guess to my love for theater and symbologies, that I always fill all my pieces with (those who know me enough to discuss with me of my creations know even the smallest of touches has a sense in what I do). Sadly this coloured version suffers from the low quality of the scanning, determined mostly by the not regular grainy effect the wax pencils over the chiaroscuro forcedly cause. But I hope you can feel at least the atmosphere of the scene... I thank all member in 2D Forum for providing each month awesome inputs and advices to let hobbists like me not only amuse themselves, but for challengin us the most towards improving as the amusing exchanges go on. THANX Cam&the Crew!!! Next piece will be a portrait of a STUNNINGLY beautiful lady who's a member here, hsteel.Watch out on December 2nd(also watch out her artworks.. trust my advice, you won't be disappointed) and thanx for the constant support. Hugs :) :) :)

Love your style Meli! This is dark but full of detail and well done, and in that time limit...

I think I'd have to see the original to be able to really comment properly (will you still have it when I visit?) because I agree with you that this is showing very grainy here and for me it obscures the effectiveness of the chiaroscuro which is supposed to give the image a sense of depth and solidity. It does still have atmosphere though :-)
Hugs, and see you tonight... fingers crossed! :-D

it's extremely grainy and thus there is little detail which is a shame I guess. Please go back to drawing women ;]

I think its grittyness works for it in a way. Like impressionism in a different media other than paint. You may be on to something! Its bold coloring and confident hand speak through action for you. Beautiful job dear and thank you for opening a whole page of history that I never knew about.

As you know im very found of colour and I do like the colours in this pice.. the things that feel wrong for me (though perhaps in the orignial version it wouldent bother me so much I dont know :)) Is the white, especialy by the door it seems to look wrong given the heavy tones of the rest of the picture. But otherwise its a very nice use of colour and form (Maria's figure being my favorite bit to look at, I do like that sort of dress alot though :))

I'm so impressed Meli! But yes indeed, it's grainy! :( Bloody scanner! It's such a shame because it does really ruins the details! I can still see the beautiful and so evocative expression on her face and this beautifuly done dress! The colors seem to be beautiful but I can't be sure of what they really look like on here! Also I can't tell what expression the 2 guys on top of the stairs have! :( I would love to see the original! :( But for what I can see, it looks like a very impressive and beautiful piece! :) U're very talented sweety! And yea, I will read that story too! Thx for the link sweet Meli. Love u baby, Pascale.

excellent meli - your people are always wonderful. I bet a scanner setting could help the shiny wax pencil, but don't ask me what to choose! Hobbyist is a good state of mind, don't you agree? it gives us the ultimate freedom - no pesky clients, just satisfy yourself and we'll be happy to watch! You are your own best/worst client!

Of course, I have only an idea of the original, but even in this scan, there is such a high passion, and dramatic foreboding.....really so effective. I love the way your thoughts and feelings totally saturate everything you do. Such a beautiful gift.

Un altro stupendo pezzo Orietta....!!! ha un uso molto azzeccato dei colori in toni oscuri, quello che conferiscigli un clima molto speciale....!!! il triste fine di Maria Stuardo rappresentato in forma magnifica....!!!
